This interview will also be published in Spanish in Diario AS.
Guillem – It´s been an incredible season considering that things haven´t gone exactly according to plan.
Fernando Torres – That´s what football is like, in the end what this season has taught me is that football is made from these moments, these special moments – a group of lucky people and sometimes you need a little bit of luck, and that is what the team has had. « Read the rest of this entry »

This is nothing we haven’t heard before. This is, in fact, the worst season of his life: not starting, being on the bench most of the season, that suspension after the red card, not scoring, times when AVB (and even RDM now) preferred Drogba.
And the issue is, in fact, that Drogba being in Chelsea means Fernando is only the 2nd option as a striker, since it is a system (as we all have seen) that is built around Drogba. It has worked for years. Even Marquis Del Bosque has said that only when Drogba leaves will Fernando find better form in Chelsea.
In addition, he has said that not starting in the Champions League final is the “biggest disappointment of his life”. This we have already heard in the Shreeves interview. And it must be. After all, he only came in at 85th minute. In the FA cup final, he did not play at all.
Now, people are blowing this interview out of proportion to kill the celebratory atmosphere (of course)… So I am posting this video along with the actual parade. Hear Fernando Torres singing “We are the Champions” severely off key.
Congratulations to Chelsea FC in what can only be described (as aptly put by Drogba) as a “written in the stars” win over FC Bayern München.

GS: For Didier’s goal, you won the corner. When you came on, were you determined to chase every ball? It looked like you were after everything.
Fernando Torres: Well I think we needed to attack. We have been on the game like we (sic) handbrake… looking like we couldn’t attack, and we could.
(note: Fernando came in as a sub only at the 85th minute; watch him talk about his disappointment at not starting, but commends Ryan.)

This exact same hour last year, I knew a couple of things that I had to face in 2011. An assignment by mid-year. A project that I had no clue about. I was 26, single, poor, typing away on my computer too (much like this), hoping that 2011 will be a good year.
And here I am, having gone through 2011, having lived it. It was so much more than what I expected. Even more than what I wished for.
As early as April, I was already out on assignment. In Singapore, no less. « Read the rest of this entry »
